Tishomingo State Park is a rock climbing paradise. They have 117 climbing routes and bouldering problems. The park is in extreme NE Mississippi, about a two hour drive from Starkville.
To get there, follow Highway 45 (or 45a) to Tupelo, get on the Natchez Trace, and go north for 43 miles. There's a large brown sign on the trace that marks the turnoff to the park.
There are two Scout camp sites, LU01, and HU01. LU0 is the lower tent site, and HU01 is the upper tent site. These are next door to each other. HU01 is accessible by 4WD truck, if there has been any recent rainfall. You can rive right up to LU01.
Troop 45 camped in HU01. There is a super nice bath house at the foot of the hill, about 150' from the campsite. We tented 23 people in the site comfortably, with room for more. Each site has a fire ring with built-in grill, which we used.
The camp has a nice chapel service each Sunday morning at 8:30, staffed by community volunteers. We attended, and it was very nice. The pews and pavilion were just right for a cool morning.
Scout camping is $2/person/night. The bath house alone is worth that.
The bath house next to the Scout campsites is the best campsite bath house I've ever seen. PERIOD. It's very new, all tile interior, nice shower stalls, lots and lots of hot water, motion activated inside lighting, three lavatories, big mirrors (real mirrors, not stainless plate), just as nice as anything could be. It's also 100% ADA compliant.
They have disc golf and a swimming pool.
Troop 45 highly recommends Tishomingo State Park as a camping destination.
