Lux Camping Trip April, 2007

Troop 45 made it over to the Luxapalila Creek Park for a two night stay. We were a stone's throw from the banks of the Tombigbee River, and there was plenty of good camping room available.

There's a large field at the end of the road where we set up an orienteering course, and a trail up the hill where we taught new Scouts the basics of backpacking.

The pavilion has a large stone fireplace in the north end, and we kept a cheery fire going there all weekend. There was plenty of firewood around thanks to the nearby brushpiles, all we had to do was cut it to size. The fireplace donated coals for dutch ovens on Saturday night, and provided the base for grilled hamburgers for one of our patrols.

The restrooms were clean. They are about 300 yards up the hill, but they do lack wash basins and have no showers facilities. Toilets are it, but they are flush toilets and they do work.

There are several water spigots near the pavilion, so we had plenty of potable water for the campout.

Our troop would recommend this site to any troop looking for a new place to camp.

Our thanks go out to Scoutmaster Tim Beattie who joined us for the weekend and acted as our congenial host.
