Upper Run, Bear Creek

Postby AllenMcB » Fri Jul 03, 2009 4:21 pm

Troop 45 canoed the upper run of Bear Creek this past week. The run is about four and a half hours long. The water was quick, although it was low in many places. We had to portage our canoes about 30 yards in one place to get around a very small, high drop off.

We rented canoes rom Bear Creek Canoe Rentals just north of Hackleburg, AL. The canoes were $40 each (there's a discount if you rent at least five, the usual was $50).

Water is released by TVA into the Bear Creek each Saturday and Sunday, Memorial Day through Labor Day, so weekend canoeing is better than weekday canoeing.

This run is a good canoeing introduction for the less experienced canoers.
