No-Fee Primitive Camping In Tombigbee National Forest

Postby AllenMcB » Tue Apr 11, 2006 7:16 am

We were driving in the Tombigbee National Forest last weekend, and noticed a sign at the entrance that said "NO FEE FOR PRIMITIVE CAMPING WITHIN WMA LOCATED ON FOREST ROADS 954, 955, 971-1, AND 960".

WMA is the Wildlife Management Area. We drove down these forest roads, and they are truly unimproved. This would be for tent camping only. There's no running water, no latrines, no anything other than trees, hills, and sky. As a site for "camping in the rough", this would be ideal. Water will have to be brought in, sanitary needs provided by the campers, etc.

Call the District Office at 258-3264 to ask about campfires before going, there are probably some regulations, and probably some occasional burn bans.
